Moral Dilemma

A long time ago some really nasty trolls were verbally abusing me in the newsgroups. I figured right quick that any response would only lead to more abuse so I stopped posting to the groups and I went my merry way.

But before I left I set up a GPT-style bot to autopost to the groups each time they reply to my bot posts. After nearly two years later I opened the groups in a news reader to discover that the same trolls had been responding to the bot posts all that time. They were still going at it with their abuse of the bot. The retards are oblivious.

I have a moral dilemma. I feel a bit guilty, knowing that my bot has wasted what probably amounts to dozens of hours of their pathetic lives reading and responding to my bot posts.

Should I pull the plug on the bot?

Or should I set the bot to use more aggressive phrases and get popcorn?

Do you really need to ask?

I don't like feeling guilty for fooling someone. But I also hate trolls
who love abusing people. Quite an ambivalent state for me.

On one hand I want to annoy the trolls. But then what does it cost me?
Does my humanity diminish to their level?

If nobody does anything then nothing changes.

Well, as you can see in the groups you posted, there if there was before
any trolls, they are not any now, google groups is gone,(good) a lot of
trolls desisted and many new people.
Do you want the new people to get annoyed and leave? or engange in
good conversations?

That depends. Without knowing the content of the conversations the trolls have had it's
difficult to respond. Is the behavior of the trolls by any chance evolving
in a positive way along the conversation?

isn't it a positive evolution if they focus on the trolltrap discussion?

You just gave me an idea. Keep them busy; don't try to win.

That is the win.

I had time to look around the newsgroups again. The trolls continue
their verbal abuse and filth unabated and they have ramped it up a bit.
It looks like at least four of them are sock puppets for the same troll.

Could you please share this script or at least write what application (inside this bot) you used to post? I would like to write a similar script, but for downloading and summarizing threads.
